百望园/The Garden of 100 Hopes/El Jardin de las Cien Esperanzas, will officially open on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 2023.

You may have noticed some significant landscaping taking place at the southern corner of Virgina Road in recent months. Exciting things are growing for the San Marino community. A portion of the Virginia Manse property is being revitalized to create a garden and contemplative space for the entire community to enjoy! Eight dead and dying trees (along with an additional eight stumps from previously dead trees) were removed from the south corner of the Virginia Manse. Excess grass has also been removed from the property with a rebate received from SoCal Water$mart Turf Replacement. In line with the San Marino City permit, 23 trees have been planted on the Alhambra Road side of the property along with a mini orchard in the backyard. In their place, a garden with over 1500 square feet of vegetable beds is currently being built. Created with a warm and welcoming labyrinth design, the garden will be accessible from the street for all to enjoy. The garden will continue to be owned and maintained by Community Church, with the goal of providing hope in the community. The name for the garden was chosen in collaboration with the Mandarin Bible Study and speaks to Romans 15:13 "May you be filled with all joy and peace...and abound in hope." Over 30 volunteers have worked on the garden so far (with the very first work day being led by our Youth Group) and we're looking forward to continuing to build this community in the months ahead. Please join us for the next work day! Email us at gardenof100hopes@gmail.com with any questions.
